Who We Are
FHRCO – the Federation of Health Regulatory Colleges of Ontario – is made up of the province’s 21 health regulatory colleges, scroll list to the right. Although we are called colleges, we are not schools. The colleges were established by a law called the Regulated Health Professions Act, to protect your right to safe, competent and ethical health care. Each college does this by holding its registered health care professionals accountable for their conduct and practice. Between them, the 21 colleges govern more than 256,000 health professionals in Ontario. The colleges are directed by councils or boards of directors, consisting of professionals (elected by their peers), as well as members of the public (appointed by the Lieutenant Governor of Ontario) who represent your interests as a health care consumer.
